Backend Engineer at Boston’s Most Happening Startup

Going is a fast growing venture backed startup providing the only site focused on making the city more fun for 18-35 year olds online as well as offline. We’re a fun, smart group looking to expand our core engineering team. We are headquartered in the heart of Boston, next to shopping, restaurants, bars, and public transportation, with easy access to and from Cambridge, Back Bay, Chinatown, Fenway and beyond.
Scope and Responsibilities
* Establish infrastructure/procedures that minimizes scalability risks
* Work with the engineering team to ensure each developer does their part for performance
* Work with the product team to understand end user needs and tradeoffs
* Identify problematic queries and implement creative solutions that preserve functionality
* Profile relevant PHP code, identify and fix performance issues
* Contribute to architecture, design and code reviews
* Quantify trade-offs in caching / bandwidth / database accesses
Requirements
* BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent degree
* 3+ years building scalable database driven web applications
* Detailed understand of relational databases and experience with query optimization.
* Experience with PHP
* Proven ability to learn quickly
* Working knowledge of Linux, development tools (vim/emacs, grep, sed, etc.)
Plusses:
* Strength in developing and analyzing algorithms
* MySQL Ninja skills
* Ability to look at performance holistically, not just at the query level
