An Internet Startup: Lead Visual Designer

Location: San Francisco, CA

URL: http://www.aninternetstartup.com/

We’re looking for a Lead Visual Designer to join the team at our brand new (but well-funded) startup. We’re based in downtown San Francisco and we can talk about what we do when we meet up, but we think it’s pretty cool.

It’s too bad we can’t say too much about what we’re doing, because we think it is a great gig for a seasoned and serious designer. We put the ‘Visual’ in there, because we plan to hire dedicated Interaction Designers as well, so you can be responsible for one thing while of course having a healthy debate with the other person.

The kind of stuff you’ll be doing:
Defining and developing the visual style
Actually decide on and design flows, pages, icons, emails, the works
Manage and inspire agencies that are helping us out
Work with product people, front-end and back-end developers to wrestle the technology into doing what you want
Be a strong and consistent voice of clarity and simplicity in design and messaging
Find and hire additional designers
The kind of person we’re looking for:
Have a strong opinion on design in general and what works in an web application environment
Solid typography sense
Conscientious and detail-oriented
A good writer, too (someone else will be responsible, but writing is designing as they say)
Comfortable with managing and prioritizing own and other’s time
Good at framing decisions and making a case for a view point
The kind of experience we expect:
3-5 years of experience in a Lead Designer role
Either reasonably comfortable or entirely at home with CSS and HTML (although someone else will be responsible for production code)
People management experience preferred
A great portfolio
We can promise the usual startup-life of hard work, fast pace and lots and lots of responsibility. Luckily we also have some benefits, like health, dental and 401(K).

To apply: Please email us at jobs@aninternetstartup.com with the subject ‘Lead Visual Designer’ and attach your CV in PDF, HTML or some sort of text-format as well as either a PDF of or a link to your portfolio.
